"Acceleration" is so named because of his low birth weight to high weaning weight spread. His first calf crop did just this - calves averaged a 98 birth weight ratio and a 104 wean ratio! This dropped his BW EPD and increased his WW EPD! There are several standout Acceleration calves this year. The third heaviest adjusted weaning weight heifer calf of the crop weighed in at 735 pounds and is sired by Acceleration. His first calves will sell in our February 2, 2010 production sale as well as heifers bred to him.
Acceleration has a hard-to-find EPD package with tremendous EPDs in 3 economically important (but distinctly different) areas: Growth (WW EPD), Maternal ($Weaned Calf Value), and Calving Ease (CEM). He was the lead-off and co-top selling bull in our 2008 production sale. Acceleration is owned with Hawleys Gen X Angus of Arcadia, NE, and Palmer Angus of Wellman, Iowa.
Acceleration is backed by three generations of Pathfinder dams; every animal in the bottom half of his three generation pedigree is a Pathfinder! Dam X78 records 8 at 96 birth weight ratio, 8 at 109 wean ratio, and 7 at 105 yearling ratio. She maintains a 363 day calving interval. She is an easy fleshing, more moderate framed 377 daughter with a superb udder. If I were to pick out the top 10 cows of the herd each year, she would certainly be in those 10. . . every year. Her 2008 heifer calf, and full sister to Acceleration, was the 10th heaviest weaning weight heifer calf of the crop.
Acceleration is X78's third-in-a-row feature Gridiron son. Her first was a $4500 son selling to Bryan Hawley. Next was the 14th top weaning weight bull of his crop and purchased by long-time repeat customers Roy and Rick Reno. At $3800, I thought this was one of the best bargains in the sale for the quality of bull he was. X78's 2009 bull calf is a feature CC&7 son in our 2010 production sale. . . he is the thickest bull of the crop! See his photo below.
Grandam S78 records 11 at 94 birth weight ratio, 11 at 103 wean ratio, 9 at 103 yearling ratio, and has a 363 day calving interval.
